Meet Member Artist Becky Bergmann…

My name is Becky Bergmann and I have been a resident of Savage for 33 years, moving to my new home in the middle of the Halloween blizzard of 1991. I’m a Minnesota native, growing up in Minneapolis and am a bit of a nerd on Minnesota trivia.

My parents encouraged art activities from a young age. We did paint-by-number paintings as well as colored pencil projects. Decoupaging on wood and painting model plastic birds were also fun art projects. My father let me use his camera at age 8 and I was hooked. I’ve been taking photographs ever since. I’ve been a member of Minnesota Valley Photography Club since 1985, participating in educational programs and photo competitions.

On retiring I had a little more time to enjoy the fine art and craft projects as well. I started using colored pencils, doing “adult” coloring books with a group once a week. I’ve taken a step away from the books and colored scenes on wood. I also wanted to explore the world of watercolor painting and have been taking community education classes for the past 4+ years, to work on developing my skills.

My instructor was a member of the Savage Area Arts Community and I joined the Wednesday Open Studio group. There are so many talented artists here and I’ve learned so much in my time with the group. I’ve dabbled in acrylic painting, acrylic pours, and a few textile projects. The biggest benefit is meeting other artists and sharing ideas.

I highly recommend joining the Savage Area Arts Community as a member and then stop by the center on Wednesdays for an afternoon of creativity and networking, and, of course… fun!
