Meet Member Artist Adele Halberg…

My name is Adele Halberg, and I have lived in Savage since 2007. I worked at a local technical college until retiring in 2020. In 2024, I was invited to attend the weekly Open Studio for the Savage Area Arts Community. I relished the opportunity to practice art and meet new people, and decided to become a member in early 2025.
From the time I was a young child, I’ve enjoyed artistic things. I remember my mother complimenting the drawings and artwork of my early years. She taught me to knit and sew as well. My father also practiced creativity in many ways such as woodworking, cooking, and baking. Both parents inspired me to continue seeking creative outlets throughout my life.
After retirement, I had more time to participate in activities that would allow me to develop my interest in creative arts. My husband encouraged me to try a Community Education watercolor painting class offered in December of 2022, and I have continued with the class since then. I had dabbled in oil painting and acrylics years ago, but watercolor was new to me before taking this class. It has now captured my heart!
I especially love painting watercolor cards for Christmas, birthdays, and other occasions. It has been a joy to create framed paintings for my young grandchildren to display in their bedrooms as well.
In addition to watercolor painting and basic knitting, some of the other artistic endeavors I’ve been learning and appreciating include photography, Zentangle inspired drawing, coloring, hand-lettering, and crocheting. My husband is also a creator, and we enjoy making and decorating holiday crafts together.
The art opportunities offered in the Savage area have been wonderful additions to my retirement years and I’m grateful for them. I have even begun to call myself an “artist”!
