Meet Member Artist Gwen Chynoweth…

Growing up in Horicon, Wisconsin, home to the internationally recognized Horicon Marsh, Gwen developed a lifelong appreciation for the natural world that continues to inspire her work. Although she discovered oil painting in high school, she spent more than 40 years building a career in journalism, communications, public relations, and marketing before returning to painting.

Today, Gwen creates contemporary oil landscapes inspired by the beauty of the Midwest while also exploring more abstract styles. Her work has been exhibited throughout Minnesota and is currently on display at Club Prior, Dakotah! Sport and Fitness, the Red Wing Arts Depot Gallery, the Healing Arts Gallery at District One Hospital in Faribault, and the Chaska Community Center Gallery.

An active member of Minnesota's arts community, Gwen was a founding member of the Prior Lake Art Dock and was instrumental in establishing Art Dock and Talk (now Artist Round Table) and supported the recent merger of Art Dock with the Savage Area Arts Community (SAAC). She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Savage Area Arts Community (SAAC) and is also a member of the Arts Consortium of Carver County, Red Wing Arts, and the Minnesota Artists Association. She lives in Prior Lake with her husband, where she continues to find inspiration in nature, travel, and the landscapes of the Midwest.
