Patricia Kness is a local painter who works in both oils and watercolors. A painter for over 50 years, Patricia has produced hundreds of works, ranging from a series of twenty-minute paintings of apples, to portraits, landscapes, and acclaimed still-life flowers. She has received numerous awards and honors for her work, including The Lambert and Emma Wallace Cadwallader Prize for Portraiture from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Her winning portrait was exhibited in the Philadelphia Museum of Art for the month of May 1993.
Patricia has lived in Savage and surrounding areas for many years, as well as other places, and has been actively involved with the Savage Area Arts Community – formerly known as the Savage Arts Council – for a long time. If you stop into the Savage Arts Center you will see many of Patricia’s works hanging on our center/studio walls.
Patricia tells artists and emerging artists to always do what you love. Make each work your own. She also reminds people to never stop studying, learning, and looking. By looking she says, “I mean study the sky, notice the color of winter trees, study warm tones and cool tones”.
Patricia is looking forward to re-engaging with the Savage Area Arts Community after a recent move back to the area. She is also eager for a four-generation art show in the coming year which will include her son-in-law, two granddaughters, a grandson, two great grands, a niece, a nephew, and, of course, Patricia herself. www.patriciakness.com
