Around the Samovar: Insights into Folk Craft of the Slavic World
Join us and learn the dynamic history of craft embroidery practices, folk dress traditions, and creative rituals of the Slavic world - from the Caspian Sea to the Carpathian Mountains. Learn the regional designs and histories of Slavic folk embroidery, experience a traditional Slavic tea service, and examine vibrant antique and archival textile samples of Slavic folk costumes. Then experience instruction and practice the basic-intermediate cross stitch technique fundamental to traditional Slavic embroidery. Participants will be provided with all craft materials necessary to enjoy the class (e.g. canvas materials, needles, threads, full-color pattern). This class is suitable for adults of all ages.
